As Katlyn and her dad walked down the aisle to where Jake was waiting this past Saturday, the clouds opened up and the rain began to fall. Their ceremony was in the gardens of the Matthaei Botanical Gardens and as guests took cover under white parasols, Katlyn and Jake just laughed as the rain fell on them as they promised to spend forever together. They say rain on your wedding day is good luck and these two certainly got a piece of that luck! Luckily, the rain cleared up right after they were pronounced husband and wife and headed back down the aisle together and we even got a bit of sunshine during portraits! You can see how soaked all of the guys suits were from standing in the rain during the ceremony but their bridal party was all laughs and smiles afterwards when they took cover in the conservatory at Matthaei to dry off.
One of my favorite moments of their wedding day was the first look in one of the gardens at Matthaei. When Jake turned around and saw Katlyn, he immediately gave her a huge hug and buried his head in her shoulder. When they pulled away, Katlyn had the biggest smile on her face as she was looking up at Jake!
Katlyn carried with her her grandfather’s handkerchief that her grandmother embroidered for her. She also had pieces from both of her grandmother’s dresses incorporated into her gorgeous bouquet (check out the pretty succulents in it) and it was so sweet when she showed them after the ceremony. One of her grandma’s teared up and started to cry and it was such a tender moment between them!
Katlyn & Jake, thank you for trusting me to photograph your wedding day and being so wonderful to work with! I’ve enjoyed getting to know you both over the past year and I wish you a lifetime of love and happiness together! Much love, Jen xx
