“Oh, city streets, the stories that they tell. Oh, city streets, they can be heaven, they can be hell. Lovers with their arms entwined, silhouettes against the light. A warm bed is waiting as they head home after staying up all night. For them the city is magic.”
Carole King is one of my favorite songwriter’s ever (yes, even over Taylor Swift, who is right up there at number 2, followed by Ryan Tedder and Sara Bareilles, in case you were wondering) and this song was running through my head as I was editing Joy & Tyler’s engagement photos! These two are so in love and I had a blast third wheeling them around the city that they call home. From the Loop where Joy works to the cozy, rooftop bar at the Ace Hotel in their neighborhood, to Tyler’s old apartment building in the background of some of the photos, we documented their love in the areas around their home that they love. As we were roaming around Chicago, Joy and I discovered we’re basically twins and we kept finding more and more things we had in common. We both went to Michigan at the same time, we were both political science majors, we both lived in Oxford freshman year, we both have Bichon Friese dogs, we both couldn’t handle econ at Michigan (Tyler’s a Michigan alum too and was an econ major) and the list goes on! We were reminiscing over our time in college big time and those memories hold a big piece of Joy & Tyler’s story as well because it’s the place where these two met and fell in love! I’m so excited to document their journey coming full circle next November when Joy & Tyler get married at the Michigan League in Ann Arbor!
