Sara & Mitchell got engaged in Cancun, Mexico in May of 2018 and shortly after were the first couple to book me for 2020! Unbeknownst to me at the time, I was actually photographing a destination wedding in Mexico at that very same resort on the day they got engaged & Sara recognized me from following me on Instagram!! They were originally supposed to have a Henry Ford Museum wedding, but they pivoted to an outdoor War Memorial wedding so they could celebrate with more of their family & friends!! Their wedding was one I was looking forward to for a long time and it did not disappoint!! From their ceremony at one of the most beautiful historic Catholic Churches in Detroit, Sweetest Heart of Mary, to the classic Packard car from Motor City vintage Rentals that drove them to the War Memorial, to lots of time for portraits, it was an incredible day!
The morning started at the Dearborn Inn where Sara & Mitchell got ready! Sara, wearing a chic long lace bridal robe, hung with her best gals as they got their hair & make-up done before her mom & Maid of Honor helped her into her beautiful lace dress. She wore a cathedral length veil & her bridal portraits are some of my faves! Her & Mitchell met up in the beautiful lobby of the Dearborn Inn (those black & white checked marble floors are my favorite) for their first look, before we headed over to the Detroit Institute of Arts for portraits!
After a beautiful, emotion filled ceremony at Sweetest Heart of Mary in Detroit, everyone made the short drive over to the War Memorial for cocktail hour out on the back lawn and the most magnificent pink hued sunset over the water. We took some more portraits of Sara & Mitchell and their wedding party there (the Vanity Fair style portraits we took with the car are some of my favorites and I’m always so happy when wedding parties are patient & game for me setting them up)!! One of my favorite moments of the reception was when Sara & Mitchell were announced in and the new Mr. & Mrs. & walked down the back steps of the War Memorial to everyone’s cheers! You can see the pure joy & excitement on their faces!! Sara’s Maid of Honor & Mitchell’s Best Man gave speeches that had them in tears & the priest that married them gave a hilarious speech before the dinner prayer that have everyone laughing!
Sara & Mitchell, thank you for choosing me to capture your wedding day! It was so perfect & I was honored to be alongside the two of you! Wishing you both lots of love & happiness in the years to come & I hope you cherish these photos forever! Much love, Jen. xx
