Melynda & Michael’s Chicago New Year’s Eve wedding marked my last wedding of 2019 and what a one it was to end on!! I had never photographed a NYE wedding before theirs & now I cannot wait for the wedding I have this year on NYE!!
The day started with champagne & ended with champagne – as all wedding days should, but especially New Year’s Eve ones!! Melynda & her girls shared a toast in the morning while getting ready!! Once hair & make-up was done, Melynda’s mom helped her get into her white sequined fitted dress. It was the absolute perfect dress for a New Year’s Eve wedding as the sequins caught the light beautifully and brought the New Year’s Eve party factor to her wedding day! Not to be outdone, Michael rocked a sleek, modern white dinner jacket instead of the classic black!
It had snowed the night before their wedding and we had the prettiest snowy scene for their wedding portraits. Melynda specifically chose a location that had an old black clock in the distance as a nod to Father Time and the countdown to midnight since she was having a New Year’s Eve wedding!! I thought that was such a fun touch & a subtle way to incorporate the theme into her wedding day!!
After portraits, we headed to the ceremony where Melynda & Michael exchanged vows & placed rings on each other’s fingers in front of all of their guests. After mingling during cocktail hour, guests were seated for dinner in the beautiful space Melynda designed, complete with warm candlelight, lots of black & gold accents, New Year’s Eve hats & headbands & a fun gold “2020” selfie wall!! During speeches, Melynda’s sister surprised her with a choreographed song & dance with the whole bridal party that had everyone clapping along!! The dance floor was packed all night long & as the clock struck midnight, confetti went off & Melynda & Michael shared their first kiss of 2020 surrounded on the dance floor by their nearest and dearest who were blowing their party horns & singing Auld Lang Syne while toasting each other with champagne. It was the perfect end to a perfect day and great way to usher in the new decade!!
Speaking of decades, Melynda & Michael, I hope you both love & cherish these photos in the decades to come!! It was so much fun getting to know you both & spending your wedding day with you!! Wishing you lots of love & happiness! Much love, Jen. xx
